Julia lived with a foster family for the first 6 months of her life. This was the required waiting period for the paperwork to clear and we could take her home. If you know anything about the American foster care system, you can understand why I was so anxious. Was my baby being cared for with love and kindness?
I needn’t have worried. Julia was with a wonderful foster family who treated her like their own.
Julia”s foster mother, Veronica, is a saint. I will never be able to thank her enough. The adoption lawyer told us that the whole family cried when he took Julia away to bring her to us.
Over the years, we have corresponded with Veronica, first through letters and now via Facebook. She told me she took Julia to church every day to pray that she would go to a loving family.
Meanwhile, a thousand miles away, Veronics was answering my own prayers.
It’s been great getting to know everyone in the foster family through Facebook. But tonight, finally, we will all be together for dinner, as a family! We’ve been planning this for years!
